University’s staff volunteering effort rewarded
Community projects across Charnwood supported by the volunteering efforts of twelve members of staff have been rewarded by the University with grants from its Community Donations Fund.
Just over £5000 was awarded from the Inside Out Fund, one of four categories that make up the overall Community Donations Fund.
Staff working in a range of academic and administrative departments submitted bids and the groups and projects receiving support are:
Carillion Sports Club |
To complete the internal decoration in the sports club based in Hastings Ward. |

Thorpe Acre Pre School |
To provide an outdoor sound area using natural looking resources. |
£500 |
Hum Hey Hindustani |
To buy a set of matching costumes for the children to enhance the group's identity. |
£500 |
Charnwood Tennis Club |
To replace worn-out equipment, to continue offering community tennis programme. |

Multiple Sclerosis Society |
Kurling and bowls equipment to encourage socialisation. |

Loughborough Market Traders |
T Shirts for internationalisation of market traders. |

Holy Trinity Church, Barrow |
To help with funding a disabled toilet in the new extension. |

National Childbirth Trust |
To improve facilities by buying tea urns, art supplies and room hire for Messy Play. |

Charnwood Ringing Group |
To purchase bird rings and equipment such as nets. |

Haddon Way Residents |
To help buy items for this year's Fun Day, i.e. marquee hire, sports equipment, etc. |

Syston Town FC |
To buy new kit for the girls, training equipment and training for new coaches. |

Loughborough Blind Social Club |
To facilitate a daytrip on the Great Central Railway, Loughborough. |

The members of staff receiving awards were presented with their cheques by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shirley Pearce, at a small ceremony held on campus earlier this month.
Since the Donations Fund was established over 30 members of staff have been awarded grants from the Donations Fund, rewarding the many hours of volunteering that take place out of normal working hours.
The Donations Fund will be in operation again for the academic year 2011/2012 and details of the funds and the deadlines for submission of bids are available on the University website.
